Lost Pony

Most of you have probably heard the story about the boy digging through the manure and when asked what he was doing, he said with all this manure, there has to be a pony in here somewhere.

You see to me this parable is all about the lost opportunity most of us miss when something happens to us that is devastating or at least not what we would have consciously chosen, Why, because most of us are so busy blaming others and feeling sorry for ourselves when something doesn’t go our way, or something “bad”  that we miss the “Golden Opportunity” of finding the Pony in that Pile of Manure in our life.

When I met Barry Adkins a couple of years ago, his message inspired me to take more time to look for the good in every challenge in my life. I had already been doing this for some time, but his message showed me that even in the most devastating circumstances it is possible to find good. You see Barry lost his teenage son to Alcohol Poisoning. Yet, he found a way to turn that devastation into a message that is changing lives.

Here is a link to that interview, so you can hear Barry’s story directly from him.

If you are having any problems or negative experiences in your life, and who isn’t, I challenge you to look for the good, look for the way to make a difference in other people’s lives.

Here are a couple of ways that I’ve found to be helpful when I am trying to find the “Pony” in the pile of manure that life has dealt to me.

Intention

I like to set the intention that I get a clear insight as to what good can come from this devastation? I do this intention setting in one of the following ways.

  1. I write out all of my feelings and emotions related to whatever has happened. I then light the piece of paper and allow those feelings to go up in flames (be sure to do this in a place where it is safe to burn the piece of paper without risk of causing a fire or getting burned). I then do one of the following intention setting processes
  2. Light a candle – I state my intention as follows: Great Spirit (use the term that represents the God of Your Understanding) I Know that there is a gift in this devastation that I am not currently aware of. I ask you now to show me that gift, so that I may move forward in the highest good of all involved. I then light the candle and put it somewhere that it is safe and allow it to hold that intention as I go throughout my day. Note – be sure the candle is away from anything that is flammable, and is out of the reach of children and pets.
  3. Prayer – I make the same intention as above and just allow it to go, by seeing it float up to that higher source on a feather and then seeing myself receiving the answer.
  4. Journal – I make the same intention as above and then just allow spirit to write through me on the journal pad of paper in front of me. I write whatever comes to me even if it is mind chatter. By doing so I allow myself to move into the flow and the message then comes through me and onto the paper.

I have experienced many things in my life that have been devastating and when I catch myself wallowing in self-pity, I turn to spirit and ask for insights as to why I have created this event in my reality. I am always amazed at what I am shown and how I can use the gift to make a difference in my own life or the lives of others.
