Many years ago, when I was introduced to the concept of Core Beliefs I didn’t clearly understand the difference between a core belief and any other belief. Therefore, to make sure that we are on the same page in this discussion, let me explain my understanding of the concept of Core Beliefs.
For me a Core Belief is one that underlies all of the other beliefs, either negative or positive, that is basically running the whole show (so to speak). It is the belief or set of beliefs that is at the root of what is holding us back. You may have some negative beliefs that you have worked diligently to change, with mixed results. In those cases, I would say that it is unlikely that you have tapped into what the Real underlying belief is that is keeping you stuck.
Let me give you a few examples.
- You have struggled financially for your entire life. You’ve done affirmations to change your belief that it requires Hard Work to make money. You then realized that you also have a belief that Money is the Root of All Evil, so you did affirmations to eliminate that negative belief and yet you are still struggling because you have a core belief under it all that Money will destroy your life or your happiness. This belief might have come from something one of your parents or teachers told you, or you may have watched as your parents, while going through a divorce destroyed their lives and they both ended up being miserable.
- You continually attract abusive relationships, not only in your personal life, but also in your business life as well. Your spouse and other family members take you for granted and so does your boss. You’ve done affirmations to change your beliefs that You are not worthy or that You are not lovable and yet you continue the pattern of abuse. Then finally you discover that you have a core belief that God will punish you if you love yourself or you believe that love is something you give, and that it has to come from others.
If you look at the core beliefs that I mentioned in the two examples above, you’ll quickly realize that the positive affirmations that you used to change the beliefs will help, but they won’t break through the deeper belief that you are hanging onto. Without finding that deeper Core Belief it is likely that you will never change the results you are getting.
Here are some tips for how to find those Core Beliefs…
- Meditate on the question and listen to what comes to you as an insight.
- Journal by stating a question, inviting in guides, angels, spirit, etc., asking them to help you by showing you what the underlying Core Belief is that is keeping you from whatever it is you are wanting. Write what comes to you, until you feel that you have uncovered the real underlying belief that has kept you stuck.
- Muscle check beliefs to determine what your real beliefs are, by stating a belief and checking to see if you are strong (yes, it is a belief you have) or weak (no, it is not a belief you have). For example using the second example above, you might muscle check the following statement. God will punish me if I love myself.
- Use the Straight Path to Core Beliefs Krystagraph found in my book One-Minute Energy Tune-Up ~ Power Symbols for Balanced Energy to quickly be guided to uncover the negative core beliefs that have been keeping you stuck. You can get your copy here!
The idea is to find the core belief so that you know what you are working to change. Using the God will Punish you if you love yourself example from above, consider this.
If you continually do affirmation about loving yourself, and yet at a deeper level you believe that God will punish you if you love yourself, how well do you think the affirmation about loving yourself will work? The answer, it won’t, because your strong belief about being punished if you do, will override the affirmations.
So, the idea is to work from the core belief and create affirmations that address that specific core belief, change that belief before trying to change the others and you will get much faster results.
