Tips for Cold & Flu Prevention

If you are like most people, you take your health for granted and take care of problems if you get sick. I know, because I used to live my life that way and what I discovered is that Benjamin Franklin was right…

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”

I have found that the amount of time I spend doing simple things that have become routine in my life have saved me many days of being sick in bed. Here are a few things I do that have prevented me from having a Cold or the Flu for more than 14 years, even when I am around sick people who are hacking and coughing and in the same house as me. Be sure to read all the way to the end to learn how to get your free immune builder starter kit.

Love Yourself

self-loveAs the self-love enthusiast, I was compelled to make this the first step in staying well. This means do things to take care of yourself. Put yourself first, so that you stay healthy and then you’ll have more time and energy to do the other things, such as take care of your children, or your spouse, go to work, etc. There are several things I recommend when it comes to loving yourself.

  1. Find something you love doing and take time every day to do it, even if you can only do it for a few minutes. If you love taking a long hot bath at the end of the day, do that. If you are an artist, musician, or someone who loves crafts, do that each day. It may seems selfish, but in the long run you’ll be happier and healthier and more present with everyone else around you.
  2. Ask for help. Don’t be the hero or shero, instead ask others to help you, so that you don’t injure yourself, or exhaust yourself, while everyone else is off having fun.
  3. Hire help when possible instead of trying to do it all yourself. If you work outside of your home for example, hire someone to clean your home weekly or bi-weekly so that you can do the things you love. Hire someone to do landscaping and cleaning gutters, etc., unless doing those things brings you joy, because you love working outside.

Monitor that Monkey Mind

During the winter months we hear all of the news about “cold and flu season” and the epidemic levels of influenza, etc.
If you work outsiMonkey Mindde of your home, everyone is talking about how sick they are, or their children or spouse are and how they are afraid that they two will be sick too. Do you say things like “every time the kids come home with a bug, I end up sick”, or every time the kids come home with a cold it gets passed all around the house? You get the idea. Well, I’m hear to tell you that you can say, well it does happen, so it must be so, but the real truth is your focused attention is creating your reality and you get to choose to change that mind-set and start affirming how healthy you and your entire family are. Instead of telling your kids to stay out of the cold or you’ll get sick, etc., try telling them that they are always healthy and that their immune system is strong and healthy and keeps them healthy all of the time. Program your mind by singing a fun song, (make up words if you want) that is positive and uplifting. Here’s one I use: “Every little cell in my body is healthy, every little cell in my body is well. I’m so glad every little cell in my body is healthy and well”. If you search on YouTube you’ll find several videos with people singing a similar version of this song. I believe the original tune used the word happy in place of healthy. It’s fun, uplifting and affirming.

If you aren’t aware of your mind chatter, enlist a friend or family member to gently remind you when you say something that isn’t positive and you’ll soon be on the track to staying healthier every day. Be sure that you get to do the same for your friend.

Use Positive Wording

The last time I got sick I was in a meeting situation in which I was hugging every person that came in the door of the event. People were sick and because I am always healthy, I wasn’t at all concerned about getting sick. So, as each person told me not to hug them because they had a cold or the flu, as I hugged them I said, Don’t worry I never get sick. It would seem to be a positive statement, but I got really sick for several days. That’s when I realized that I was focused on “not getting sick” instead of “of staying healthy”. Although some people get away with saying I never get sick, the subconscious mind is now focused on sick and is more likely to cause you to get sick, while focusing on staying healthy is just a simpler way to avoid any misunderstanding of your intention and is far more positive. If you measured the level of consciousness of each statement using David Hawkins scale you would find that “never get sick rates at 215” and “Always staying healthy rates at 700”

Hawkins Map of Consciousness

If you aren’t familiar with David Hawkins work and the scale of consciousness, you may find his book “The Map of Consciousness Explained” helpful for gaining insights about where you are at on his scale of consciousness and where the words your are using rate on that scale.

Check Your Energy Centers

If one or more of your Chakras (energy centers) is shutdown you are far more likely to become ill. The reason is very simple. With a shutdown chakra your entire energy system has to work harder because it is working around the center(s) that are shut down. If your throat center is shutdown you are far more likely to get a sore throat, strep throat or laryngitis. If your heart center is shut down you are far more likely to get a chest cold and if your sacral center is shutdown you are far more likely to get the stomach flu. A simple 20 second tune up of your energy and help to keep the energy flowing. Of course finding the underlying belief that caused you to shut it down to begin with will support your longer term, health, but at least get started by opening and balancing your energy centers. If you haven’t already done so, be sure to register for my newsletter and get a free copy of the Chakra Opening and Balancing Symbol.

Boost Your Immune System

Your immune system is your front line defense for staying healthy. With a quick muscle check of the Thymus Gland, I can tell whether a persons is more susceptible to health challenges from infections to ability to fight colds, the flu and other viruses.

germ2In my opinion (keep in mind I am not a doctor), one of the worst things we can do is get carried away with being too clean and concerned about picking up bugs. For instance not only do I not use Hand Sanitizers, I also do not use any anti-bacterial or anti-microbial soap or hand sanitizer products. In fact recently the FDA has indicated that so the ingredients, such as Triclosan may carry unnecessary risks to our health. In addition to that, did you know that any product that has the Fragrance in it, has a minimum of 100 different chemicals to make that fragrance (I’m not talking about essential oils – those are fine, I’m talking about the ingredient named “fragrance”). In addition to the health hazards of these products, there are indications that these products may also be responsible for creating super bugs. In my opinion our immune system when kept healthy is our best defense and coming into contact with germ, viruses, etc., is one way for the immune system to learn how to handle these germs and viruses.

Some other things you can do to build a strong immune system is take supplements, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, get more sunshine if possible and take a Probiotic supplement. If you are given an antibiotic for any reason, keep in mind it destroys the good bacteria in our gut and makes you far more susceptible to getting sick. A good Probiotic can help build up your gut flora. I occasionally take supplements, but I have also created Krystagraphs™ for many of the supplements, which you’ll find my Cold & Flu Kit.

  • Karen,

You can transmit the energy for healing your daughter through you such as with Reiki and other Energy Healing Modalities, via your hands. In the case of the Cold & Flu kit, you can give the symbols to your daughter, kids love them, to play with and they will receive the energy for healing and staying healthy just via the process of playing with the symbols. I also recommend putting the symbols under the sheet where someone is sleeping, so they can absorb the energy while sleeping.

    Hi,

My daughter has a cough. I am an energy healer and am wondering how you heal others who are often ill like small children?

    Thanks Karen
