How often have you said, I’m sick and tired of…?
Frequently people say to me…
I feel sick and tired every day and it is difficult to stay positive when I am physically ill. What can I do?
Many of you may not like this answer, but then I’m not out for a popularity contest here. It seems that from what I have learned that the more we focus on what is wrong with us, the more what is wrong with us affects us. It’s a vicious cycle that can only be stopped, by changing our focus. I recently read a story about a Female Table Pool Champion, who was in dire pain from her scoliosis and all of the surgeries, more than 10 surgeries as I recall. She was diagnosed at 12 years old and they chose to do surgery immediately. When she came out of the surgery, she was in immense pain, that never got better. As a teenager, she started drinking and smoking pot, as her way to escape the pain and then she got hooked on pool. She said she actually healed her back by playing pool for as much as 30 hours at a time.
My thought on this, is that she put her attention and focus on being the best pool player she could and by so doing, she was able to put the pain out of her mind, for the time being.
Have you ever found yourself in pain, and then have something distract you, and when that distraction is gone you are back in pain, but that during the time of the distraction you had not pain. Well, actually the pain probably didn’t go away, you just didn’t notice it.
For over 40 years, I have known that I have scoliosis. I was told that I had arthritis in my spine at the time I was diagnosed. I was also told that I would always be in a lot of pain. I bought into those predictions for years. I took huge doses of Aspirin for years until they burned a hole in my stomach and I ended up with ulcers. At that moment, I decided that something had to change. So, I took my focus off of the pain, I get rid of all of the medicine and started visualizing my spine being healthier and healthier every day. I also started focusing on doing things that kept me distracted from the pain and to this day, I rarely ever have pain and when I do, it doesn’t last long, because I see the pain as a warning that I need to stretch, take a break, etc. So, I do those things and get refocused on something else and before long the pain is gone.
The other piece that is very important here is to watch your words. If you keep saying you are “Sick and Tired” you are telling your subconscious mind that you want to be sick and tired and so your subconscious mind follows your orders and makes you “Sick and Tired”. Most of the time we aren’t even aware of our thoughts and words, and so I highly recommend that you find a Positive Attitude Partner to help you stay focused on the positive and reframe the negative things you are feeding to your subconscious mind.
I’d love to hear your comments.
