Step 1 - Moving Beyond a Dark Night of the Soul

The power of meditation and journaling for moving beyond a dark night of the soul.

As I mentioned in the previous article, one of the first steps I recommend when coming out of a Dark Night of the Soul is to Meditate and Journal. Today, I’m going to explore in more details some simple steps to get started. In case you missed the first article about “Moving Beyond a Dark Night of the Soul”, click here!

Meditation… Why and How

MeditateI can’t express enough the importance of meditation. Whether you are coming out of a dark night of the soul and trying to find your footing in your new being or you are suffering from anxiety, depression, or just want to get deeper guidance from Source, meditation will help.

Why Meditate…

Meditation is known to have many health benefits. These include reduction in stress and anxiety, relief from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, improvement in breathing and having feeling more loving and peaceful. Some studies even found that you can sleep less as much as 60 minutes less for every 20 minutes of meditation.

I find that meditation is one of my two favorite ways of connecting with spirit or source to get guidance, especially when I am struggling to find an answer about something troubling me, whether it be a health issue, a financial issue or even an issue with a family member or friend.

How to Quiet Your Mind to Meditate…

The number one question I get about meditating is, how to quiet the mind. After an interview series on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, that was focused on the power of Transcendental Meditation (TM) I decided to take a TM class.  I had been meditating for over 20 years and wondered if TM could help me to take my meditation deeper and help me to quiet my mind even more.

So, imagine my shock when the first basic teaching was “Don’t try to quiet your mind”, instead observe and when ready come back to the mantra. Just knowing, that attempting to quiet my mind was not necessary, caused my meditation to go deeper in my first session. The reason is, that I stopped judging or trying to shut off my mind.

So rather than attempting to quiet your mind, allow the chatter to come in, observe it and then return to whatever you are doing to meditate. In the case of TM, you are coming back to the Mantra, or when doing a breathing meditation, come back to place your focus back on your breath. Following are several methods of meditation that I have found helpful.

Guided Visualization

I personally found that I had to be able to enjoy listening to the voice of the person doing the guidance. For each of us that will be someone different. Research shows that most people are more likely to trust the voice of a female than a male. Remember, I said for most people, so it is important for you to check in and sense for yourself whether you prefer male or female voices.

Here is one of my favorite guided meditations.

Breathing Meditation

Breathing meditations have helped me to learn to breathe deeper. I tend to breathe very shallow, which isn’t unusual. In my case though, because I have scoliosis, it’s really important for me, to breathe deeper and expand my lungs. We can all benefit from focused breathing in my opinion. My favorite breathing course and meditation is my Andrew Weil, you can learn more about it here!

Meditating with Krystagraphs

Today, I typically meditate with Krystagraphs to open and balance my chakras, let go of my ego and more. I sometimes visualize them and other times, I hold them in my hand while I’m meditating. My new Krystagraphs for Meditation eBook and Letting Go of the Ego Guided Meditation will be available soon.

Meditating with Binaural Beats

Binaural beat and other brainwave entrainment recordings can also be extremely helpful for meditating. I’ll be offering several in my store with the next few weeks, including one’s for Self-Love, Financial Abundance and Health, all encoded with Krystagraph energy along with the Ho’Oponopono prayer subliminal recorded within the audio.

The How and Why of Journaling…

Journaling is another great way to get clarity as you come out of a dark night of the soul. As you tap into the Source energy and Spirit Realm you can get some great insights from your guides, from Source and even from angels.

The key here is to set up an environment that supports your time to connect with your spirit guides and receive the guidance to move forward. Soft candle light, incense, soft ocean sounds, or gentle music can all be helpful in creating the environment.

Having a journal and pen to write in is also important. I recommend that you have a favorite pen and you use a spiral notebook that you use only for journaling.

Set the intention before starting your journal. Invite in your guides and angels for their insights, ask specific questions or for guidance about a specific issue. Allow yourself to automatically write whatever comes to you. This takes some practice, and the best way to get good at this, is to write whatever comes to you, no matter how silly until you break through and start writing guidance you are receiving. When I first started this process, my first half page was things like, I feel silly, I don’t know what to write, nothing is coming to me, etc.
