Are you using Powerful Affirmations?

When it comes to feeding my mind I like giving it the best possible food I can. Now in this context I’m talking about the information I feed my mind. I’m so fussy about what goes into my brain, I rarely ever read the news or know what is going on in the world. I find that most of what we hear in the news or on TV tends to be focused on the bad things that happen in the world and violence. I have friends who call me and update me, when they feel there is something going on that I need to know. I’m just as fussy about the movies I watch and the music I listen to. From the research I have read, violent movies have gotten more and more violent over the years, to keep our attention, which to me means that those who are watching them are becoming numb to the violence.

I have friends who tease me about being anal about not watching the news, not wanting to see action flicks and about how fussy I am about how to train the brain and create the results that you want.

Besides eliminating the negativity of news and violent movies, etc. I find it is even more important to pay attention to what we say and who we associate with. If you are always around negative people, it takes a lot more effort to stay positive yourself. So, if at all possible, it’s important to get rid of as many of the negative relationships that you possibly can and replace them with positive relationships. I encourage you to even find a positive attitude partner  that is loving and supportive in helping you to become more positive, as you help them to do the same. I’ll talk more about this in a future article.

Another important aspect of getting the results you want is finding the underlying core belief that you are living by. This particular aspect is extremely important, in the process of making real change in your life. If you don’t work forward from where you are, you will end up doing a lot of work without making a whole lot of progress. For me, I did years of positive affirmations about self-esteem and self-love, only to to discover that I had an underlying core belief that God would punish me if I loved myself. Imagine how much my subconscious mind fought off all of the positive affirmations, about how much I loved myself and that I was worthy. I’ll share more on this topic in a future article, as it is critical to your overall success in making real change in your life.

Are the affirmations You are using really what you want to program your mind with?

I am often surprised and frankly appalled at the affirmations being used within subliminal recordings and in brain wave entrainment programs. Some of the most popular programs on the market, use affirmations that I would never allow into my mindset. For example…

  1. Money comes to me easily and effortlessly
  2. I have an unlimited supply of money coming to me.
  3. I love myself unconditionally
  4. I easily earn more than $????? per month

Knowing that the subconscious mind takes things literally it is important to pay attention to the working used. Take the word effortlessly. On the surface that means without effort right? But the word effort is part of the word and our subconscious mind may or may not hear that word without the “lessly” part of the word and end up focusing us on the idea that there is effort involved. I’m not suggesting that we don’t have to take action, but it depends on what we each associate effort to. Rather than wonder how your subconscious mind will interpret that affirmations, I recommend using only positive words that can’t come into question. For example with the first affirmation above, here are a couple of ways to reword the affirmations and make it totally positive.

  1. Money comes to me easily and frequently
  2. Money comes to me with ease and grace
  3. Money comes to me easily and readily

Here are examples of ways to reword the other 3 affirmations listed above.

For, I have an unlimited supply of money coming to me… I would say I have an infinite supply of money coming to me.

For, I love myself unconditionally… say I love myself totally and completely.

One might wonder about the fourth affirmation… I easily earn more than $????? per month. Here is something to think about. You might earn the money but does that mean you will actually receive it. How many times have you worked hard for something and not gotten any money in return? So, I always say I easily receive more than $????? per month. Notice also that when stating a quantity, it is best to say more than, since why would you want to limit the amount that you are receiving.
